- (pl. -ar), f. thread-hole in a shoe.* * *f., pl. æsar; [prob. a contr. form; cp. A. S. efese; cp. efsa; Swed. ofsing]:—the outer border, edge, esp. of a shoe or skin; rifjaði hann saman varrarnar ok sleit ór æsunum. Edda 71; freq. in mod. usage, but only of shoes, and in the phrase, spyrja einn út í allar æsar, to ask one questions most minutely; or also, kunna, vita út í æsar, to know all about a thing.
